Fernhill celebrates Christmas with carols extravaganza

Bolton Clarke Fernhill and the Caboolture community have come together for an evening of festivities celebrating Christmas with less than two week to go.

The annual Fernhill Christmas Carols by Candlelight event was even bigger this year with market stalls, a petting zoo, Santa’s visit and, of course, lots of carols.

Fernhill aged care resident and Santa Ted says this time of year is special for the home.

“This is my second Christmas here and it is a lovely event for everyone to bring their family along to,” Ted said.

“Being Santa and helping everyone get their photos brings me a lot of satisfaction – I love seeing everyone line up and the smiles on their faces.

“I like helping out for the afternoon and the team say I have an infectious laugh so it works well for being Santa!”

Residents from the retirement village and home enjoyed perusing the selection of handmade items such as blankets, jams, ice creams, Christmas decorations and a wide selection of plants from local small businesses and residents.

Accompanied by grandchildren and great grandchildren, residents enjoyed patting cows, holding chickens and watching goats and pigs play.

For the Fernhill team it is also a day where they are joined by their family and friends, getting into the Christmas spirit.

“It’s always been a special time of year and it’s a lovely way to bring everyone together, including the local community,” Lifestyle Coordinator Leonie said.

“We had a great turnout this year with so many families and friends joining for an evening of fun!”

The evening of festivities wrapped up with carols by the watertower.
